In December 2004, a collective effort by nineteen local agencies was initiated to develop a strategic response to help assure the healthy development of children, ages zero to six years. Needed in the community was a concerted effort to address the strengthening of families through fatherhood development. This coalition discovered a strong correlation between fatherless homes and those negative statistics that relate to health, education and the criminal justice system. There was no agency or service in the community that could assist non-custodial dads and non-effective fathers in positively connecting with their children and sustaining the relationship. By May 2005, a consensus of the many discussions, community tours, hearings, and surveys helped to create the Young Fathers Of Tomorrow Project (YFOT).
